Being my first post, I thought I should explain why I love leather jackets so much. Although I wrote about this story a bit in my about page, there is so much more to the story that I figured it would make a good first post on this leather jackets blog.
It was the summer of 1984, when I first started working in my uncle’s ranch. I’ve always thought that cowboys were really cool and I thought it was a good opportunity to pay my way through college.
Without going into much detail, I must say that during the first couple of months, I had bought three -cheap- leather jackets and not one of them could handle my day-to-day activities in the ranch.
My paycheck wasn’t big enough for me to keep buying more than one leather jacket per month, so I thought it would be an investment to buy a quality one that I could wear after leaving the ranch.
The third month of work, I took my paycheck and I headed to the mall to buy my first leather jacket.
After spending like 2 hours on the store checking out all the jackets on the store, I just didn’t had a clue about which one to buy. At the time, I didn’t knew what to look for in a leather jacket to make a good decision (That’s one of the topics I have in mind for this blog).
The salesman approached me and asked what I was looking for, so I just explained that I was looking for a men’s leather jacket, that I worked at a ranch and that I wanted this jacket to last for at least a couple of years.
He recommended several brands of which the only I can remember is the one I chose: Carhartt Jackets (that’s an Amazon.com link, by the way). I fell in love immediately. This jacket felt like it was made just for me. The fit, the color, the texture and, of course, the smell. It was the mother of all leather jackets!
The price was “good” but I figured if this jacket could deliver what the salesman promised, it would more than pay for itself after just a few months of using it.
I was right.
I used this jacket for more than 10 years and -to this day- it looks like new. Since that day, I became a fan of leather jackets (and not just Carhartt!) and never looked back.
So there ya’ go, that’s one of the reasons I love ‘em and for me to be writing this blog. There are lots of different reasons why I love leather jackets, which I’m sure I’ll be writing in this website down the road.
I hope you enjoy reading this site, and that it helps you when you have to buy your next leather jacket.
The Leather Jackets Lover,
