Leather Jackets Scam Exposed!

A scam has been exposed where Chinese jackets were being sold as expensive Italian Leather Jackets.

I just read this on the news: Eagan police arrest two in Italian leather jacket scam now besides this is obviously illegal and what not, this post is an attempt to help you recognize fake leather so you are not deceived.

How to Recognize Fake Leather

These are the basics:

  • Look for the label that indicates that the product is made with leather. Pretty obvious, but you would be amazed to know how many products just say things like “Man made materials”. If it doesn’t say is original leather, don’t buy it.
  • Feel the edges where is cut. Real leather is pretty rough on the edges whereas fake materials feel softer, kinda like plastic.
  • Feel the fabric – It should be course or silky smooth. As edges, fake leather will feel smother with a plastic feel to it
  • Look out for pores on the surface. If you recognize a pattern, it probably is fake. Leather has irregular patterns.
  • Smell it! You’ll be able to spot if it doesn’t have the characteristic leather scent.

Be careful! You don’t want to pay big bucks for a cheap, fake leather jacket!
